DIY quick & simple updates, part 2 obelisk

Second is an obelisk candle holder that I’ve had for a number of years. Originally, it was gold and brown. You know how I feel about brown, especially with gold!

This piece needed to be updated as well but it has a more modern feel so I decided to go dark. I don’t want everything to be white & distressed plus I like to mix styles together with a little yin and yang vibe.

Again I used chalk paint because of the finish I wanted to achieve but what’s also nice when using chalk paint is that no primer coat is required. Besides, this is just an old accent piece, not furniture, so if it gets messed up or doesn’t look good in the end, I won’t care.

I did two coats of the charcoal color, then (very roughly) added metallic gold to highlight a few areas. Looks incredible right?

I used to have a gold metallic crown on top of this obelisk instead of a candle but I’m updating that with paint too and I’m not sure the two pieces will go together when ever I finish the crown.
